Accessing ABA Services
The process for accessing ABA services is slightly different than accessing other special education and related services, so this summary will specifically outline that process.
If you are interested in accessing ABA services for your child:
Contact your child’s pediatrician and request and appointment to discuss your concerns
If your child is already receiving other services, such as through a county program, you can also discuss your concerns with your social worker.
Contact your insurance company and ask if your child has, “behavioral health coverage for Applied Behavior Analysis services.”
If you do have coverage, ask which agencies your insurance company contracts with so you can start researching which company with which you would like to initiate an assessment
Your pediatrician will make a referral for a behavioral assessment and you can typically choose the company you would like the referral sent to (unless your insurance company only contracts with a specific agency).
When your referral is appoved, the agency will call you to set up an asessment for your child. They will conduct their assessment and determine if services are appropriate.
The BCBA will write a report and submit it to the insurance company and make a service request.
Once the service request is approved, your services can begin. The ABA company will work with you to make a schedule that is appropriate for your child.
You will be responsible for paying copays to the ABA company based on what your insurance company’s requirements are.
